Plot
Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. When word reaches Russia, her fairy tale is threatened when his parents travel to New York to have the marriage annulled. Mikey Madison reflects on the roles that shaped her path to Anora, from Better Things to Once Upon a Time… At a Cannes Film Festival press conference, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker would act out different sexual positions with his wife, producer Samantha Quan, to demonstrate what he wanted the actors to do.

I don’t know Sean Baker as a director. I know he directed a film called Red Rocket and another one called The Florida Project with Willem Dafoe, but I haven’t seen either of them. He won the Palme d’Or for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival this year for his new film “Anora”. So I was really looking forward to watching it.
I love this film
I just watched it and it did not disappoint. Mikey Madison plays the title role of “Anora”, a stripper and lap dancer in New York who meets a rich young Russian who pays her for sex and likes her so much he pays her to spend a week with him. He then asks her to marry him. They go to Las Vegas and get married.
Then his parents find out he’s married and try to get the marriage annulled
The story is pretty simple but the film is very funny from start to finish and the audience I saw it with found it very funny and laughed a lot. The film is very emotionally engaging and I really got into the character of Anora played by Mikey Madison. She gives the best performance of the year and I would really like to see her nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress next year. Sean Baker is definitely a director to watch and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
